Kristen Anthony

French Teacher

About

Kristen Anthony

Driven by her thirst to continue learning through teaching French, Kristen embarked on an international teaching adventure, leaving her mark in Guatemala, Turkey, Thailand, and Malaysia. But it was during her time working on an organic vegetable farm in the Bay Area in California that Kristen developed a passion for food systems. This experience fueled her desire to integrate her love for agriculture into her teaching practice.

For Kristen, the study of French offers a unique forum for students from diverse backgrounds to identify and express their values and grow in their capacities to welcome such expressions from others. Her classes emphasize zones of cultural and linguistic contact and highlight the global nature of French. Having taught in the metropole, in the post-colony, and across hemispheres, she strives to engender an awareness of language not only as power, but as a fluid and dynamic force.

Kristen is a dedicated educator who believes in the power of experiential learning to transform lives and perspectives. Through her journey, she continues to inspire and connect with communities, fostering a holistic approach to education that extends beyond traditional boundaries.

Beyond the classroom, Kristen finds joy and peace in various outdoor pursuits. Whether it’s surfing, diving, sailing, hiking, climbing, or simply sitting very still, the natural world never fails to feed her adventurous soul.

What Brought Me to Chewonki?

Kristen Anthony is a seasoned educator with a unique journey that weaves through diverse cultures, landscapes, and passions. Her interest in languages and travel sparked her teaching career, which began during her Peace Corps service in a small village school in eastern Guinea. Kristen was intrigued by the profound ways in which the physical environment shapes culture and became deeply curious about the cultural impacts of industrialization.
