Supervising Registered Nurse
About
Liz Taggie
Growing up, I moved frequently across the country, living in Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Some of my fondest memories are of exploring the woods, fields, and coastlines in search of local wildlife.
I currently live in Portland with my husband, our four children, and our two rescue dogs, Kippy and Jack. In my free time, I enjoy reading, gardening, listening to history podcasts, and taking dance classes.
I have over 12 years of experience in maternal and newborn nursing and occasionally work at a local hospital, helping families during this significant life transition. I have also volunteered with the Red Cross of Maine, providing disaster relief services to those in need.
My connection to Chewonki began in high school when I attended the Outdoor Classroom and discovered my passion for canoeing, camping, and sustainable living. As a registered nurse at Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, I combine my love for healthcare and education, supporting the health and well-being of students during this transformative experience.

What Brought Me to Chewonki?
I participated in an Outdoor Classroom saltwater canoe encampment in 1999, and I’ve carried fond memories of that trip throughout my adult life. When I moved to Maine after college, I was excited to visit the Chewonki campus again. As luck would have it, Chewonki was looking for a nurse, and I was thrilled to explore this aspect of nursing. It has been incredible to watch my own children experience Chewonki as campers and leadership expedition participants, witnessing the meaningful growth they’ve achieved over the years.
