About
Yingying Brown
As an immigrant to America from Guangxi Province in Southern China, I moved to Maine in 1998 after marrying a native Mainer. Richard and I have lived with our two wonderful sons in Dresden since. Majored in Accounting and earned a bachelor’s degree from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China. Before I moved to the United States, I worked at a private real estate technology consulting company as an assistant accountant; teaching Chinese clearly wasn’t my original plan. As fate would have it, meeting Richard in Beijing through a professor who is a family friend of both of us, my first teaching Chinese experience started. As a member of CAFAM (Chinese American friendship association of Maine), I voluntarily taught three years of Chinese language and culture on Saturdays. Later on, I taught a four years Chinese language and culture program at St. John Catholic school in Brunswick, Maine. At the same time, I tutored at The Deck House in Edgecomb, Maine. In 2007, Willard Morgan, then head of Maine Coast Semester Invited me to joined MCS’s teacher team. Over the course of fourteen years working and learning at Chewonki, my love for this special place only grows deeper.
I value continuing education immensely, it keeps me current in teaching Chinese language and culture. It also fulfills my enjoyment of learning new things. I keep my teaching techniques as modern as possible, because I know my students can benefit directly from the increased efficiency and comfort of their learning.
Living in a simple place like Maine, I easily found my passion for gardening. Growing fresh produce and turning them into delicious dishes is my pride. As a southern China girl who grew up by a beautiful river, I love to swim. I am passionate about being a good friend, I care deeply about the people that I love, and am always striving to be a better person and friend to those in my life.
