About
Justin Fahey
Justin grew up on an old farm in northern Maryland. With an abiding love of the outdoors and drawn to the appeal of a liberal arts education, Justin first came to Maine when he attended Colby College to study anthropology, but spent his entire junior year studying abroad on five different continents. After graduating in 2005, Justin spent the next twelve years tackling issues of educational inequity while living in California, Colorado, and Oregon. During that time, he worked for the trailblazing global nonprofit Teach For All and then, after becoming a Teach For America corps member, taught middle and high school English, social studies, and college/career readiness.
In 2017, Justin and his family moved from Portland, Oregon back to Maine, where he started working at Bowdoin College as an Associate Dean of Admissions. After five years at Bowdoin, Justin moved to Bates College to become the Senior Associate Dean of Admission and Director of Strategic Planning; a role that had him working closely with students, staff, faculty, and the College’s senior leaders.
Bringing an infectious enthusiasm to his day-to-day work, Justin is thrilled to be a member of the Chewonki community. Justin fundamentally believes in the transformational power of Maine Coast Semester and, admittedly, wishes he had attended Semester when he was in high school! When not at work, Justin ideally spends time outdoors with his wife, two daughters, and their golden retriever, Hazel. Justin also has a master’s degree in education from Johns Hopkins University.
Degrees

What Brought Me to Chewonki?
While serving in the Office of Admissions at both Bowdoin College and Bates College, some of the most well-prepared and self-aware students in the application pools were those who attended Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki. The more I learned about Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, the more I knew it was a community I wanted to join!
