About
Katherine Raker
I grew up on the Maine Coast. As a kid my family loved sailing around Casco Bay and Down East in the summers and skiing and snowboarding at Sunday River in the winters. I was lucky enough to go to high school very close to Sunday River where our school community also frequented the White Mountains and Grafton Notch.
Despite leaving home at eighteen, returning to Maine’s coast and woods has always remained a priority and a highlight of time off with family. I received my undergraduate degree from Eckerd College and since graduating have lived in Montana, Idaho and Alaska and have loved the chance to continue exploring.
Highlights from my adventures out west would include rafting on the Payette and Salmon Rivers and getting to ski in Alaska’s Hatcher Pass and Turnagain Arm. Since moving back home to Maine, it’s been great to enjoy all that Maine has to offer in every season. If I’m not playing outside I also love to listen to podcasts, practice yoga, listen to and read books and knit very slowly.
I graduated from Boise State University with my master’s in counseling in 2020, with a focus on school counseling. Since then, I have continually worked with adolescents and teens in schools and residential programs. I am also a registered yoga teacher. I am very excited to be on the team at Chewonki to focus on whole student development and to get the chance to work in a community that is passionate about nurturing the environment and creating equitable, sustainable access to great education and the outdoors.
