Enjoying the Great Outdoors (Even When it’s Cold!)

Here at Chewonki, we like to say that there is no such thing as “too cold,” just insufficient outerwear. Needless to say, our Maine Coast Semester students are outside enjoying the beautiful Maine landscape in every season – even winter!

Semester 64 recently returned from their wilderness trips, during which they spent 4 days skiing or snowshoeing through powdery paths in Kingfield, Jackman, the Katahdin Woods, and more. Led by our seasoned teachers and guides, wilderness trips are a key component of our outdoor program. These trips encourage students to challenge themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally.

When students return to campus, it is clear that deep bonds have been formed between them. They seem to have a stronger sense of who they are and what they are capable of achieving. While they may be tired (and even a bit chilly), ask any of them how their trip was and they will respond with a resounding “AWESOME.”

Check out what our students have to say about their wilderness trips here, and don’t forget to enjoy some time outside, even if it’s cold!
