Application Checklist
Our application includes several elements: basic background information, awards and honors, extracurricular activities, a brief short answer section, and an essay. In the spirit of transparency, we want to share our essay question with you here.
Write 3-5 paragraphs (maximum 500 words) to answer the following:
“At Maine Coast Semester, we value curiosity, a sense of community, and a commitment to personal growth. Reflect on a significant person, experience, or issue that has shaped your perspective and explain why it is meaningful to who you are today.”
We want this to be a low-stress opportunity for you to express yourself in a genuine way. Focus on sharing your story and just be yourself!
2. Submit One Teacher Recommendation (required) and Submit One Additional Recommendation (optional)
Your one required recommendation must be from a teacher who has had you in an academic class (English, science, math, social studies, or world language) in high school.
The second optional recommendation may come from another teacher or anyone else in your orbit – but not a family member – who can speak to who you are and your qualities.
Please email your recommendation writers the link to our recommendation form.
3. Submit Your Transcript and School Report (required)
Please email the transcript request and school report form to your advisor or guidance counselor.
4. Submit a Parent/Guardian Questionnaire (required)
English: Please have a parent or guardian complete the online parent/guardian questionnaire.
Español: Pida a un padre o tutor que complete el cuestionario en línea para padres o tutores.
5. Schedule an Interview (optional)
Ok…ok…let’s call it what it actually is: an informational conversation!
Please contact admissions@chewonki.org to schedule an interview after submitting your online application. All interviews are done via Zoom and interviews are non-evaluative; moreover, interviews are meant to be a 20-30 minute conversation whereby Maine Coast Semester learns about you and you learn about Maine Coast Semester.
6. Complete a Financial Aid Application (optional)
A family that intends to apply for financial aid from Maine Coast Semester should fill out the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) online. We look to a student’s biological or adoptive parent(s)/guardian(s) and partners to play a role in financing a student’s experience at Maine Coast Semester. Therefore, we require submission of the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) from all households – regardless of their marital status. More specific information can be found on our Tuition & Financial Aid page.
Our Non-Discrimination Policy:
We welcome individuals of any race, color, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry or national origin, to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to our participants.
