Overview

The Teaching Fellows program at Maine Coast Semester provides on the job training for early-career teachers interested in place-based curriculum, residential life and outdoor education. Fellows engage as full faculty members, teaching alongside a mentor teacher, advising students, co-leading backcountry trips and helping administer all the different aspects of our dynamic program. Fellows are provided room and board on our beautiful coastal Maine campus.

Who Should Apply

Recent college graduates with a strong demonstrated interest in education careers and the outdoors. Previous experience working with adolescents is strongly recommended. Teaching experience is encouraged but not required.

At a Glance

  • 2-year program (4 semesters)
  • Campus housing is provided
  • Co-teach one subject with a mentor teacher
  • May teach own section in year 2
  • Advise 2-4 students each semester
  • Participate in all aspects of our residential program
  • Co-lead backcountry trips
  • Complete graduate work at Mt. Holyoke (tuition covered by Chewonki)

Independent Schools Fellowship Program

Mt. HolyokeWe are pleased to partner with Mt. Holyoke College in their the Independent Schools Program, a masters degree program for educators who would like to build their experience while getting their graduate degree. It is an opportunity for Fellows to get into the world of teaching, with the support of experienced mentors and practical coursework to help you learn how to develop curricula, effectively engage students, manage your classroom, be a good advisor, and a leader in your school.
