About Peter Sniffen
Peter joined the Chewonki family 12 years ago as a Sustainability fellow before teaching the natural history course for 9 years. Now Peter teaches the Environmental Issues course and serves as the Dean of Academics. Peter has a BA in Geology from Hamilton College and an MS in Hydrogeology from Portland State University, where he studied Glaciology. He also attended the Teton Science School studying Natural History and education. His research and teaching has included work in Wyoming, Alaska, Oregon, Iceland, Antarctica and New Zealand. He is deeply interested in the role scientific thinking plays in the modern world and passionate about the environment.
Peter lives off campus with his wife Jeannette and their two wonderful children, Isabelle (13) and Simon (4). As a family, their passions are books, gardening, biking, dancing, and playing make-believe.
