About Otis Wortley
After teaching English in Neiva, Colombia, on a Fulbright scholarship, Otis Wortley returned to his home state of Maine in summer 2018, joining the Maine Coast Semester faculty as our Spanish teacher.
Otis has also taught Spanish as a fellow at the Alzar School and as part of the language faculty of the Buxton School. He writes, “I often reflect on my experiences as a student. What educational environments were most impactful and contributed most to my personal growth? Which educators fostered my learning in the most thoughtful and meaningful ways? While identifying the moments and role models that helped to shape my educational experience, I have realized that cultivating the values that made them worthwhile is a skill in itself.”
Otis is a 2007 Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki alumnus and a graduate of Waynflete School. He studied in Earlham College’s Border Studies program. Throughout his educational journey, Otis has systematically pursued dynamic learning environments that nurture his understanding of the world.
Otis holds a B.A. in International Studies with a Latino/a Studies concentration from Kenyon College.
