It’s Saturday morning on Chewonki Neck. The sun is already above the horizon, there is a layer of frost covering the ground and it’s time for one of the traditions here at MCS: the Polar Bear Dive. At 7:00 every Saturday morning a group of students participate in diving into the frigid Maine waters. We gather on the quad where we meet the supervising faculty member, usually Willard, and start to walk, run and even skip to the waterfront. Once we arrive at the waterfront we take off our many layers of spandex, sweaters, sweatshirts and into our swimsuits on the dock and gather in groups of three to wade our way to the frigid Maine waters.
