Schuyler, Zoe, Sarah, & Wyatt dress up for “Hippie Day”

This week got off to a soggy start, with two days of rain that put a damper on OAP (Outdoor & Athletics Program) but was great for hunting mushrooms on Tuesday’s science field trip and looking for salamanders on the Neck.

Since Wednesday, campus has been filled with sunshine and perfectly crisp early autumn weather. Students come to Morning Gather bundled in sweaters and long pants, but are in tees and shorts by lunch. On Wednesday evening, we all went out to dinner in our advisor groups to get a taste of the local cuisine and spend some time away from campus.

Our Jewish students celebrated Rosh Hashanah with services in Bath and a special dinner on Thursday evening in the dining hall. Eric, one of MCS’s health care providers, described the Islamic religious observance of Ramadan, which began this week, during which Muslims fast all day and emphasize the values of charity and gratitude within their community. He urged us to cultivate these values in our community as well, especially as we gather every evening for nourishing family-style dinners, just as million of Muslims do around the world each night of Ramadan.
